This is the most productive Sunday morning I've had in ages!
I got up at 8:45, 'cause I felt ... awake .... I was thinking about my bookcase project while lying there for a few minutes and realized that I wasn't really tired, and there was a lot of laundry that needed to be done, so I got up and started doing it. Turned out that
soulstorage left a load of her laundry that she was doing here last night in the washer, so I dried that first, then got to the main event. I also made a serious dent in the disgusting state that
grinninfoole and I left the kitchen in over the past two days. Been running laundry all morning and am getting ready to leave the house for gaming in a minute.
Overall, I've had a very productive and fullfulling weekend. I started the bookcase project in my studio yesterday, with the moral support of soulstorage (thank you). She went with me to the Home Depot and pushed the cart around while I ordered wood cut, looked for a cheap vise and found sandpaper. I got the cheapest pine possible, since I knew the likelihood was that I was going mess it up. All in all, I spent $45 for tools and materials. Not bad, when you consider I'd be getting a bookshelf and an invaluable learning experience to boot.
I did a lot of measuring that didn't work out how I thought it would, but so far, overall, the bookcase is coming out fairly level, I think, and it seems pretty sturdy! I'm becoming confident that it is going to be a useable item, and so I'm feeling very victorious. SS was very helpful in steadying and moving it at various times when it turned into a two-person job. I nailed about 5-6 nails through the wrong place, but I managed to get them out again, so that was pretty cool! It's got lots of little extra holes in it, and it looks kind of messy in that way, but the holes are small, and I don't care. I'm going paint it afterwards, I decided - some really cool, vibrant colors.
I also finished my first crocheted scarf last night after we called it a day at my studio. We went to my place and I made spinach and grilled chicken salads for us. For dessert, I experimented with a recipe out of my Kripalu and made soymilk cinnamon & honey custard. It wasn't bad. It was the first time I'd ever made custard, and I didn't think it would actually gel, especially since I was using these wacky ingredients that I had to go to Wholefoods for - kuzu root and agar-agar. We settled ourselves in front of the t.v. for dinner and afterwards, I finished the scarf. I need to return
sphinxvictorian's crocheting book, and seeing her in Modern Myths the other day made me remember that I ought to look at the book more and get some use out of it. I used it last night to figure out how to end the piece. It turned out to be as simple as tying a knot!
I started another tiny, quick project, trying to make a dice bag. I think I undershot the second side of the bag, though and may have to re-do it. Thankfully, it's a really small project and it will take about 20 minutes to recoup my losses.
This afternoon, I will meet with
sydneycat to go exercise at Smith's fitness center and then afterwards, to my studio to do more hammering!
I feel so powerful right now. I feel like I'm *doing* things, and I love that feeling.
