Jun. 18th, 2005 04:21 pmCalled my dad for Father's Day today to see if he wanted me to come down. Turned out he's going to a party! He didn't even remember it was Father's Day tomorrow. Frankly, I'm glad that I'm off the hook because I would have had to cancel other plans to make it happen. Plus, I'm going to go down to see him next Sunday, and probably see my brother too, try out the new fancy grill my dad got.
What was also nice, was that on my dad's initiative, we spent about an hour on the phone, just chatting about stuff. At times, it was a little awkward, like we were running out of things to say, but we actually talked about a whole bunch of real things, which made me really happy. So often, he calls simply to accomplish some piece of business. We're not used to the whole just sit and chat thing, but we're working on it, ever since my mom died; and today felt like a real victorious moment in that effort. So yay.
In other less satisfying news, no matter what I do, I cannot make my checkbook balance. It's just way, way off. Grr...
I'm thinking about resorting to installing this copy of Quicken that I know will take up a lot of space on my aging computer. But I really need to get clear on my finances and I still don't save any money besides the retirement account my job is pulling little increments out for each paycheck.
