May. 4th, 2005 11:16 amAs always, whenever I go through a posting drought, I am initially sucked back in by the desire to share a bit of news going on in the world.
This caught my attention on the blog I occasionally check out by a freelance journalist named Christopher Allbritton, a former AP and New York Daily News reporter who is basically wandering around Iraq writing stories about what he sees going on there.
His most recent entry is a testament to a really interesting, maybe even inspiring-sounding woman who died April 16 in Iraq, the victim of a suicide bombing she had the bad luck to be next to. Her name is Marla Ruzicka, and she worked for an NGO that was trying to help Iraqi families who've lost family members and property due to the U.S. bombing campaigns. Apparently, many Iraqis looked upon her as a saint, but she was much more complex than that. You can read Allbritton's bittersweet eulogy to Ruzicka here: http://www.back-to-iraq.com/
Reading this also makes me remember that I like writing in here, and want to pick it up again. Sigh.
