God, I love my bank...
Mar. 10th, 2005 11:58 amYet another moment that tells me I so made the right choice in switching from Bank of America to Northampton Cooperative Bank several months ago.
I was just using my online banking to check my balance against my ledger and see what's cleared. I noticed that my ledger disagreed with one entry in which I sent in a check to make a payment on my overdraft balance. It disagreed in my favor, so I wasn't upset, just confused. In my ledger, it said the check was for 50.00. Online banking said it was for 71.49. Why would I have written a check for that amount?
So I called my bank and got this very nice young woman who tried to help me puzzle through it with no signs whatsoever of impatience or anything. As she looked through it, she said, "Oh wait! Yes, I remember this because I did it myself!"
And she went on to explain what had happened, which was basically I'd looked at the wrong line in my ledger when I went and wrote the check. It all made sense.
But what really struck me was that it was easily solveable because THE WOMAN REMEMBERED DOING THE TRANSACTION PERSONALLY. That never would have happened at Bank of America. I would have got some call center in Boston or something, where the person would be overworked and have no idea what I was talking about and would have been able to do nothing but throw up her hands and say, "I dunno. All I can tell you is what I see on my computer."
Over and over again, it's been reinforced to me that I really made the right decision in switching banks. Insubstansial post, I know, but I just wanted to express my exuberance, and maybe a throw little plug their way.
