I'm totally ticked, and a little surprised. I mean, I know the Streamys aren't exactly prestigious awards at this point, but Face of the Enemy cleaned up in them. Well, the drama side, anyway :)
Over on the SciFi website, someone offered the explanation that it might have to do with the fact that these were written after the writers' strike, and something about the change in contract might have made it financially prohibitive. It's a theory only, but I'd kind of believe it.
Either way, it pisses me off. I don't think they're cutting it because it's OMG gay! (at least, I hope not), but once again, poor Gaeta's getting the shaft. ::sigh:: I really think the webisodes are essential to understanding what he does (although probably not for the reasons the writers intended), and without them... argh.
You know, the sad thing, if it IS the fact that there's a gay relationship in it, is that for a hack job at giving Felix a life, the relationship is so tastefully done... (aside from the kiss in the Raptor with the Eight, which still burns me up because I think it's horribly out of character, unless the person tempting him was Gaius) UGH. Not to mention that the webisodes actually gave Hoshi a character.
My desire to own 4.5 dropped a bit after this news.
It might very well be that they're not cutting it because it's OMG gay! as you say. But a little sensitivity to the fact that it might come across that way would have been nice. I mean, that letter from Universal to that AfterElton.com guy couldn't have been more "frak you, now fork over $350 bucks, sci-fi geek, because we know you won't be able to stop yourself" if it tried.
They bothered making those webisodes not to make Gaeta gay but because they felt they needed to explain why Gaeta turned on Adama. So why leave that explanation out of the story now, you know?
I was really looking forward to having the webisodes on DVD. *sigh*
